I heart hats

So I have spent the past weekend using up scrap stash and making hats. I love the mindlessness of the simple pattern knowing that the finished product will keep chilly heads warm and toasty. I have all these partial balls of yarn that have enough left for a hat or two.
The funny part about all this hat-ness is that I don't wear them! I love the look of various hats, but I have this baby fine hair that gets matted down whenever I wear them!

I'll be better!

I have been told "how can I follow your blog if you never update?" Okay so I am going to blog more often. Really. No, seriously I am.

So here's the update since umm... yeah... August. I will be better!
I am becoming quite the yarn snob. I blame a dear friend of mine, you know who you are! I have been looking through the stash and found some really crappy, and I mean crappy yarn that I bought when I very first started knitting. That is not to say that the yarn is unsuited for any kind of public consumption its just that it is not my ball of fun. I have been out in the world and fondling various yarns and can now feel the difference between yarn and YARN. I now may need second job to replenish that stash.
I am finally on Etsy! User name is designsbygypsymoon if you are so inclined to peek. I figure what better way to replenish the stash than sell things and buy more yarn.
My knitting creations are now viewable on Flickr. Username Gypsy~Moon. Check it out.

So that's it for now. I will be better. Really!

1st Ever Baby Blanket

I was informed that my "works in progress" section did not include mention to a baby blanket that I am working on. The reason for this is that the "working on" aspect has only progressed to picking out the yarn colors and blanket pattern. The actually making of the blanket will begin this weekend when I purchase the yarn. I will be posting pictures of it as soon as I get it on the needles.

The story behind my 1st ever baby blanket is that a dear friend of my who is pregnant with her second child. I know that this wonderful human being loves me and will simply adore whatever blanket I make regardless of how less than perfect it is. I have high hopes that it will be a beautiful blending bright, non-pastel child-friendly colors and a basketweave stitch that will look much more complicated than it actually is.

I must be in hell

So as with most crafts, friends ask "oh, can you make me one" and this applies to knitting too. We love our friends so we say "sure!" and proceed to design, purchase supplies and begin the piece. This is not so hard really, except when the friend states that they are allergic to wool. I am convinced that people who say they are allergic to wool just haven't met the right sheep, alpaca, llama etc.
Being an accommodating type person, I picked up some really nifty looking self striping 100% acrylic gray yarn and began knitting the chosen project (a scarf) in a seed stitch pattern. It looks cool but 237 rows into it, I want to shoot myself! After all this it is only about 24 inches long!
In the future, when I get the idea to do something in seed stitch with 100% acrylic yarn.... someone please whack me in the head until I regain my senses.

Knitters, Knitters Everywhere

So it seems I am not the only one bit by the knitting bug. I posted a blog on another one of my sites letting others know about this spanking new blog and while receiving the expected comments about being nuts (in all fairness, I did call myself nuts in the post) I learned that several of my friends also knit! I'm thinking maybe its time for a knit oriented trip..... cruise, roadtrip, visits to far flung LYS etc.

And so it begins.....

I have finally sucummbed to the world of blogging. Some people blog their lives, I will blog my obsession. I finally learned to knit after many years of trying various people, videos, books etc and now I am hooked.
This will be a place to share my obsession with others like me. So come in, take a seat and knit.
